Chuck Relocates!

Chuck, mixed media

I have been so busy painting to get ready for fall shows that I have fallen behind in updating my website. Painting all the time I spend many hours alone and in extreme concentration so the opportunity to share my work and to meet new people who appreicate it is wonderful! This painting of a very stately goat I met at a farm nearby was bought this summer and is now hanging in San Franciso.

Today was the first of four weekends I will be showing at art festivals. The street festival in Peru was wonderful; the weather beautiful and the other artists and visitors to the event were great. For the shows and gallery exhibits I have been painting around the clock falling behind in posting, correspondence and even photographing paintings. Not good!

Dalmation

Dalmatian, 30"x40" acrylic on aluminum

This is a painting I did for a Windham Art Gallery project to put paintings on the doors at a Veterans Home in Bennington VT.  The intent is for each door to have a different large image that is easily recognizable so residents can easily find their room.

Lily, 12x12' acrylic on wood
The last few months of 2008 I was extremely busy with commissions.  Each animal I paint is special and Lily is a People Dog.  Most often I don't get to meet the animals I paint on commission but Lily came to visit for pictures last fall.  After spending the time with her I saw such intelligence and I had an instant feeling she was a person!  Around my house my husband and I often say "dogs are people too" but not all dogs are to the same degree as Lily seems to be!

Rabbit, acrylic on textured wood

I have so many paintings in my head waiting to be painted!  Finally getting the time to really get going on a new series.  This one is far from finished but I wanted to start the new year off by actually getting some work posted.

Stella 24"x18", acrylic on wood

Stella lives at Stonewall Farm in Keene.  I haven't determined what type of sheep she is but I was told that her wool is good for craft projects and that she is great with kids.  I had first posted this painting a while ago but have now finished it.  Because I have a bunch of shows coming up every day is finishing paintings.  That is sometimes hard for me because I have so many ideas of new paintings I want to start.  Fall is a favorite time with all the colors and harvests.  This weekend we are headed to a garlic festival.  Last year it was a wonderful day where I found some unforgettable mohair rabbits and sheep that turned into paintings.

Martha's Vineyard Inspired

This is a new small painting in prep for a larger painting I hope to get to start soon.  It is inspired by three chickens that were at the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair waiting to be judged.

Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair Poster

My submission won the contest for the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair.  I was thrilled to be in the company of the other 146 artists who have done posters in the past years!

This year the fair is titled "The Best Under the Sun" with the theme "Homegrown Favorites" both chosen after my poster was picked and I think goes so well with my idea.  I look forward to being at the fair signing posters next week.  A first for me!

Free Range

24"x30"
I was visiting a friend's farm last fall and this pig decided to take a walk on her own.  No place looked especially interesting I guess.  After Gail got a pail of food the pig followed back to her fenced pen.  Food is like that!

Garden Treats

18"x36"
Missing painting!  I wonder where this painting sits or hopefully hangs?  A series of unfortunate events caused it to be resting on the roof of my car one morning with two others. Driving away I saw the paintings fly off as I headed down hill.  Pulled over and ran back.  Found two paintings in excellent shape but didn't know to look for a third which must of flown farther and was hidden by brush.  A whole week later I was looking for the painting and realized what had happened.  It was signed and no neighbors have said they found it.  Although I live in a rural area and know many of my neighbors in the summer there are people traveling these roads who don't know me.  I do hope who ever found it enjoys animals and vegetables...and the painting!

Out For A Walk

Out For A Walk, 12"x24"

Working on a series of very large paintings I have found it relaxing to paint smaller ones at the same time.  Some end up to be preparation for a much larger painter.  This is the first of three new dog paintings. They are all of dogs I have met and can not resist painting!

Nuthatch

24"x18"x2" acrylic mixed media on wood

This is the first winter I've really kept on top of daily bird feeding. I am always hoping for some fantastic bird but alas I am feeding many chickadees, two nuthatches, two titmice, and two varieties of woodpeckers. Occasionally a junco shows up and I shouldn't forget the two red squirrels and four grey squirrels. These are wonderful so I shouldn't complain but I know some fantastic cardinals go to feeders one hill over but have never been here. Something to look forward to I guess.

SVAC Opening

My opening at Southern Vermont Art Center yesterday went very well in spite of the snow coming earlier and heavier than expected.  This was out the window near my exhibit.  Shots of my work hung in the art center didn't thrill me as much as this photo Rick took of a sculpture dancing in the snowy winter garden!

Finished!

Or so I think it is finished!  I will have time now before this painting goes to an exhibit to obsess over what I want to add or change.

Second posting today!

Finally a beautiful sunny day.  It has been so dreary this month my plants are desperate for the sun.  Cold but sunny.  Put me in the mood to finish this pig painting.  I remember the day last summer we found him at a farm in New Hampshire.  It was so sunny and hot that day and the pigs were not moving to much.  This guy was actually quite dusty and dirty - I cleaned him up a lot!

February Show

This is a detail from a new peacock painting I am finishing for my February show at the Southern Vermont Art Center.  Peacock's are so wonderfully showy and perfect subjects for artists to paint but this is the first one I have wanted to capture.  Something about the expression of his stance and the look on his face excited me.

Busy

When I started this blog I thought I would be posting every day but reality got in the way!  I have been busy though.  Here is a recent photo of some work in progress.

Works In Progress

I think of this llama as the most beautiful llama I ever saw.  We photographed him at my new favorite animal spot - Hildene in Manchester.  It was early fall in the late afternoon and the llamas were waiting for feeding.  This guy was just hanging out looking so regal but the one next him was quite a spitter and I had to duck once or twice!

Travolta - this is one of my all time favorite roosters to paint.  He lived on a farm of a great animal lover and old friend in Townshend.  She named him Travolta for his natural beauty and personality!.

Quechee Kestrel

My visits to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science are wonderful and I always come home with great references.  This kestrel is used in the education program.
