I am a narrative painter who began my artistic career with clay. After 14 years of making my living as a sculptor and ten years as an art teacher, I have settled on painting. I always said I wanted to be a painter and I would paint if I could figure out what to put on the blank canvas. Then I hit on it, and I have been painting non-stop ever since. I do this full time, seven days a week in the most beautiful part of Massachusetts - Berkshire County.
As you would expect from a former clay artist, texture is very important to my paintings. For many years I was painting animals with the intention of expressing their uniqueness without becoming sentimental. Currently I am painting the natural world - plants, flowers, trees and landscapes. As with my animal paintings, my newest paintings range from realism to the layered brushwork and inventiveness of expressionism. The drag of the brush, layers of paint and the drive to paint the beauty and vulnerability of our life keep me painting.
